Gateway International Transport Inc. Designated as CCSF (Certified Cargo Screening Facility) by the TSA (Transportation Security Administration) 

HOUSTON, Sept. 9 /GLG Press Release/ -- Gateway International Transport, an international freight forwarder with a proven track record in project management and with corporate offices in Houston Texas, has been approved since June of 2010 as a Certified Cargo Screening Facility (CCSF) by the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA). The designation establishes the Houston office as a facility which can screen shipments for clients and prevent possible screening delays at the Houston Intercontinental IAH or Hobby HOU airports.

 

The US Congress passed the Implementing Recommendations of the 9/11 Commission Act in 2007. The law mandated that by August 1, 2010, 100 percent of cargo transported on a passenger aircraft be screened at the piece level, prior to being transported on any passenger aircraft.  This law mandated that cargo be screened at a level commiserate with other passenger luggage.
 

For the oil, gas and energy industries in the Houston area, whose air shipments typically include time sensitive materials, the new regulation poses a major obstacle and potential bottleneck in the air cargo supply chain. The substantial increase in screening that has accompanied the recent implementation date, may contribute to significant delays that cannot be estimated with accuracy, when an airline is screening a cargo shipment directly. In addition, as cargo, not screened by a CCSF, may need to be screened to a piece level during shipment by an airline, there is an increased risk of transportation damage or product loss associated with the new screening. However, screening at a CCSF, that also helps package your cargo for air freight will reduce or eliminate completely such delays or conditions.

Certified Cargo Screening Facilities must meet the rigorous security requirements for their physical location, personnel and screening.

Organizations who choose not to participate in the program must consider alternative methods to comply with the mandate, if they are ship cargo via air freight on commercial air carriers.
