Hurricane Ike ripped ashore in Houston Texas on September 13, 2008 and caused great damage to the city of Houston and associated coast line. At the time of this press release almost 40% of the city remains in darkness 10 days after the storm reached shore.
The Gateway Logistics Group, Inc. was no exception to the rule as the Houston freight forwarder sustained damage to their corporate office as a result of Hurricane Ike's passage. Roof Sections in both warehouses at the corporate facility were damaged by the storm, and some operations and accounting offices had water damage to carpets and dry wall due to water getting in through faulty windows.
The damage to the building however turned out to be mostly superficial as the office never lost power, and received no damage to key computer systems or operations areas. Carpets damaged by Hurricane Ike have already had water removed, and as of September 22, the office is now fully operational. Damaged Roofs Repairs are to begin within the week and full crating and warehouse operations are available now.

We expect no further interruptions in service or availability moving forward due to Hurricane Ike. "If the rest of the city of Houston had fared as well the corporate office did at Houston InterContinental’s Cargo Facility, we could have returned to full staffing and operations even sooner than we did"... said Houston System Manager David Collins when asked about the storm and aftermath. He further stated... "The Houston Office never lost power during the hurricane as the Airport Power Grid is underground like the Downtown and Medical Center Regions. The main problem with returning to operations was the destruction and flooding caused by the storm in all surrounding areas with access to the airport complex. Until Monday September 15th, it was virtually impossible to reach the Airport Cargo Facility as most access roads were flooded. Even days later it was still hard to get into the area, but now many parts of the city are starting to come back to life".
The General Manager in Houston Tony Faia added this additional comment: "The Gateway Logistics Group is back at full strength today and is now ready to handle all our new and existing customers’ needs with regards to logistics services. We are back at full staff in our Domestic Operations Department, as we are in all other departments: Air International Export, ABI Customs Imports, Ocean Export, as well as the Warehouse and Crating Facility."
The Vice President of Finance and Administration for the Gateway Logistics Corporation Mr. William McCaughey added... "The company as a whole as well as our clients cargo located at our Houston Facility came through Hurricane Ike in remarkably good shape considering the large amount of damage caused locally by the storm. In many ways we have advantage of other forwarders in town as we are directly on Airport Property with its underground power utilities so while 98% of the city was without power, our office, and our computer systems were up and operational. We did not have many of the other problems local forwarders and corporations faced due to Hurricane Ike, i.e. power, internet, phone connectivity, etc. Long Story Short we were fortunate due to foresight in planning and also due to a little luck"
